MSAT: Medical Selection Admissions Test (Ulster)

Who needs to take it?

The MSAT is required for entry to a number of allied health professional courses at Ulster University. In particular:

Ulster University

  • Diagnostic Radiography and Imaging

  • Occupational Therapy

  • Physiotherapy

  • Podiatry

  • Radiotherapy and Oncology

  • Speech and Language Therapy

November 2025: Registration opens

4 February 2026: Registration closes

24 February 2026: Admissions tickets released (with arrival times)

7-15 March 2026: Test date

May 2026: Results released

Format

The test is run by ACER, the Australian Council for Educational research.

The test is run at the Belfast and Derry/Londonderry campuses of Ulster University.

The test is multiple choice and lasts 2 hours and 40 minutes.

It assesses three key areas:

  • Critical reasoning

  • Quantitative reasoning

  • Interpersonal understanding

Results

Results will be available in May, and will be sent to candidates and to Ulster University.

Cost

The cost £87 for 2026 entry.

Preparation

ACER provides some limited guidance and one set of sample questions for the MSAT, included in the registration fee.
